Finding A Scholarship For You

Education is now starting to be more of a luxury rather than a need. The number of students who can’t afford to study is now increasing. a lot of students are now looking for ways to fund their schooling. Some end up as working students while there are those who are lucky enough to land themselves a grant like getting scholarships for Women.

Typically only the smartest students are able to earn some educational grants. Yet nowadays, several institutions recognized the need to give equal opportunities to students. A lot of institutions today offer scholarship grants for various reasons. Some offer it as a prize for a certain competition. Others simply offer it to someone who possesses the traits that they are looking for.

Among these organizations are those that offer scholarships for Women. They often offer it to female students who have exemplary characters or have made a significant contribution to help fellow women. It’s a very good opportunity for a gender that has experienced a long history of discrimination.

Way back the olden times women were not even considered as human beings. They were even used as objects of trade. Fathers didn’t want their daughters to be educated. They view women as mere homemakers so it won’t be necessary for them to get any formal education. They never thought of women as valuable members of the society.

But through time, many women have fought for a place under the sun. They believed in themselves and they wanted to change the way society views women. Today, we cannot really say that the society is already egalitarian but at least the status of women has changed.

There are still some forms of discrimination against women today. But at least many have already played valuable roles in the society. Some have even risen to be heads of certain stated. This simply shows how capable women are and that it’s worth to have Scholarships for Women.

Unique And Incredible Scholarships

Unconventional scholarships would be a more appropriate term for weird scholarships. They go against the very notion that most people have about scholarships.

First let us see what is considered normal before we delve into what is weird. Scholarships are usually offered to students who show exemplary performance in academics, sports or the arts. Math wizards or science geeks, members of the hockey team, cheerleaders, theater actors, and all those who fall under the same category- these are those that are awarded some or the other scholarship. But, what if your special abilities do not fit the social norms, well, there are very unconventional and weird scholarships for that purpose. These quirky characteristics may fall under three criteria.

Those based on Physical Criteria

There are several scholarship grants being offered for those who possess unique physical characteristics. One scholarship grant is offered for students who are unusually tall. A club for tall people offers a grant of up to $1,000 for male students with a height of 6’2’’ and above or female students with a height of 5’10” and above. And fair enough, little people, or those who have dwarfism also have their own scholarships and grants. Other weird scholarships falling under this criterion include scholarships for redheads, twins, triplets and extremely overweight people.

Those based on interest

Students who have unique interests or philosophies in life have a lot of scholarship opportunities. There are various interest groups that offer scholarships for joining their group or sharing their interest. For example, there are exclusive scholarships for vegans. Besides being a vegan, an applicant is also required to write an essay on a related topic. There are also a large number of interest based scholarships including one for skateboarding.

Those based on talent

These scholarships are awarded to people who have unique, unconventional abilities. Under this criterion, the student with the weirdest or quirkiest talents may actually qualify for a scholarship grant. One of these grants awards $1,500 to an expert duck caller. One organization also grants scholarships for students who are skilled welders.

Even though some of these weird scholarships might sound funny, they have their purpose. Their purpose is to highlight and demonstrate that everyone is unique and everyone possesses some or the other unique ability.
